Throughout the year, your garden furniture is subject to different weather conditions: snow in winter, rain in autumn and sunlight in summer. To ensure that all furniture continues to look good and that you can enjoy it even more on sunny and warm days, maintenance is very important. Read on to discover how you can ensure that your plastic, aluminum and wooden garden furniture stays looking beautiful all year round.

Cleaning plastic garden furniture:

Plastic garden furniture is made of strong material that actually requires little maintenance. This way, keeping this furniture beautiful will cost you relatively little time and effort. However, they do need to be cleaned regularly to extend their lifespan. You can do this cleaning with soapy water or special garden furniture cleaner and warm water. We recommend that you do not use other aggressive cleaning agents. It is also better not to use hard brushes or clothes. These can scratch the furniture. Microfiber cloths or other soft cloths are therefore a better option.

Cleaning aluminum garden furniture:

Aluminum garden furniture is lightweight, making it easy to move, and has a modern look. This type of furniture is also easy to maintain. The most important thing about this garden furniture is that it is regularly wiped with a soft cloth or sponge and soapy water. There is no need for really deep cleaning, because by wiping you ensure that dirt cannot easily adhere to the material. We also advise against using a high-pressure spray or aggressive cleaning agents on this type of furniture. Of course, you can always uses special cleaners .And are there glass parts on your aluminum furniture? Then use a microfiber cloth with special glass cleaners.

Unlike plastic furniture, which often contains a UV protective layer, aluminum is sensitive to excessive sunlight. This means it is best to place the aluminum furniture in the shade when you are not using it. Covering with accessories or protective covers is not wise, because this can cause permanent stains.

Cleaning wooden garden furniture:

Wooden garden furniture may be the most beautiful, but also the most difficult to maintain properly. That is why you should pay more attention to this than to plastic, wicker or aluminum garden furniture. Your wooden garden furniture must of course also be cleaned regularly. You can use soapy water and some liquid (green) soap for this . Special cleaners for garden furniture are also suitable for removing the most stubborn stains. Always polish along the grain to maintain the natural appearance of the wood and never use a high-pressure cleaner. This can damage the wood.

But what does a long treatment look like?

1 – Wetting: Start by completely wetting the material. This causes the pores of the wood to open.
2- Cleaning: Clean as we mentioned above, i.e. with soapy water and some green soap or with a special cleaner.

3- Drying: Before you continue, the furniture must dry completely, preferably longer than 24 hours, so that you can be sure that there is really no moisture left on it.
4 – Sanding: To remove small cracks or chips, you can lightly sand the table with fine sandpaper. After this, the furniture must be made dust-free.

5- Applying wood oil: Special wood oil  for garden furniture is necessary to keep the structure beautiful. This should be rubbed with a soft (microfiber) cloth.

6- Wipe: After the furniture has been oiled and left to stand for about ten minutes, wipe it with a dry, dust-free cloth to remove excess oil.

Moisture is also disastrous for wooden furniture. Therefore, protect the legs of the garden chairs and garden table against moisture in autumn and winter with rubber or plastic caps.
